The Pungo District Hospital Foundation The Foundation is a spirited group of volunteers giving their time to the Pungo District Hospital. Over the last several years the Pirates On The Pungo Regatta has raised funds to benefit the hospital through its purchase of equipment, of special rooms, education opportunities for the staff and by offering scholarships to qualified individuals seeking to enter the healthcare field. Pungo District Hospital serves Eastern Beaufort and Hyde Counties and is vital to this region because of it location and accessibility to remote locations. The Hospital is a modern facility offering updated healthcare to the Belhaven area including a 24-hour Emergency Room. Over the past several years, the Pungo District Hospital has continued to allow patients access to specialized health care without having to drive an additional thirty to sixty miles. A bone densitometry machine has been added, the CT scan has been upgraded, a sleep apnea clinic has been established, as well as outpatient clinics to include cardiology, nephrology and behavioral health services. The Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) corporation, and all contributions are deductible to the fullest extent of the IRS law.
