2008 Pirates On The Pungo Regatta Info

Pirates on the Pungo Regatta was conceived as a way to raise money for the Pungo District Hospital Foundation while highlighting the beautiful waters of the Belhaven area. In 1999, the first Pirates on the Pungo Regatta was a resounding success and has grown to attract national participation. The 2008 Pirates on the Pungo Regatta will be bigger and better than ever!

River Forest Manor is the anchor site for the weekend events, providing dockage, accommodations and keel -boat launches at a reduced rate to Regatta participants.

Free dockage available for keel boats prior to and after the event at Day Beacon condos in Belhaven. Contact Bob Haynes for more info.

Trailerable boats may use the free launching and trailer storage facilities at the NC Wildlife ramp in Belhaven.

Free camping space is available by reservation. For more info, contact Bob Haynes at (252)964-3442 or by e-mail at bobhaynesjr@yahoo.com.

Monohull boats will compete both Saturday and Sunday, using PHRF ratings, on windward or triangular courses in the Pungo River. PHRF boats must have a valid NC-PHRF certificate or obtain a temporary rating from the event organizers.

"We've sailed and raced(?) in many a Pirates on the Pungo and have always had a ball (win or lose, or even finish.) The race, the festivities, the participants, Belhaven, it's all worth the effort. You can count on seeing the TROUBADOUR again this year, we might even finish ;-)"
