Belhaven once again welcomes Pirates on the Pungo Regatta on May 18-20.

Attracted by Belhaven’s picturesque waterfront community, participants from Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, DC, Maryland and Canada come to enjoy shoreside activities, sailboat and dinghy racing and the Buccaneer Bash dinner/dance.

Volunteers from two local groups, the Belhaven Yacht Club and the River Rat Yacht Club organize the regatta each year to benefit Vidant Pungo Hospital Foundation whose mission is to support Vidant Pungo Hospital.

Vidant Pungo Hospital is very important to Beaufort and Hyde counties.. Thanks to the efforts of the yacht club volunteers and the generosity of the sponsors, Pirates on the Pungo donated $14,000 to the Hospital Foundation in 2011.

Sponsorships have enabled the regatta to donate over $75,000 to the Foundation over the past 12 years. Sponsor donations from the 2011 regatta have helped fund cardiac monitoring equipment, a stress test system, new beds for the ER and much more.

Because Pirates on the Pungo Regatta is an all-volunteer effort, the regatta has no overhead or administrative costs. Ticket sales, race entry fees, T-shirt sales, and product and service donations cover expenses. All of the money donated by our sponsors goes directly to the Vidant Pungo Hospital Foundation.
